Ask Me About My Job!

What do you do?

I’m a Social Media Manager and Digital Marketer for Little Ego Ltd. I look after clients social media pages, create campaig ns, look at social media trends, write blog posts…loads of stuff

How long have you worked at Little Ego for?

I’ve just recently finished my Social Media apprenticeship so just over a year now.

How did you get to where you are? (Qualifications, uni etc)

I did really well in my A-Levels. I got an A*, A and 2 B’s (Extended Project, Media, Performing Arts and English Language)…I then went to study Media, Communications and Popular Music at Liverpool. The course wasn’t what I was expecting at all. It was great to be in Liverpool, but the course just wasn’t for me, so I dropped out within 2 months of being there. I then took a gap year to pursue some freelance writing work. I was working in bars to earn some extra cash but ended up spending it all on tattoos (not something I’m particularly proud of! Driving lessons probably would have been more useful!) I then went back to university…this time to Cardiff University to study Journalism. Again, the city was amazing. I met some amazing people. I joined the radio station and the student newspaper. But the course again wasn’t for me. So I dropped out…again.
I then spend the year in and out of awful bar jobs, whilst applying for loads of different apprenticeships. Then early September last year, I bagged myself an interview with Little Ego Ltd. A week later, I got the apprenticeship. Words could not explain how happy I was. They loved my portfolio.
A year later, here I am.
What do you love most about your job?

Honestly…everything. I’ve been so lucky. I have wonderful managers who are so helpful and understanding if something goes wrong. I love that I get to do something I’m passionate about. I love the creative writing side. I love the feedback from clients, whether it’s good or constructive. I love learning new things with the job…in particular with Photoshop and social media trends. Every day is different.
What’s the worst thing?
I guess not being able to switch off. I go home and I live with social media. I see poorly written tweets and it can be frustrating but obviously in a trivial way.

What’s the biggest misconception about you?
That I sit on Facebook all day. This isn’t true at all. Yes I work in social media but it doesn’t mean I sit on my bum all day chilling out of Facebook. My job is a lot harder than it sounds. There’s a lot more too it than people think.
What’s been the best moment?
All of it but the defining moment I guess was getting called in to the meeting where I got told I’d finished my apprenticeship and it was time to start full time.
Where do you see yourself in 5 years time?
I hope I’m still working for Little Ego. I love the team. I love my job. I look forward to coming in every day. It’s a privilege to work with such like minded creative people. In 10 years I hope to have my own business and have my magazine that I made when I was 18 up and running.

Do you have any advice for people who want to work in the media and design industry?

Truthfully…don’t give up. It’s not about your qualifications. It’s about your experiences and your passion. If your passionate about what you want to do then people will see it. I’m proud of the obstacles that I’ve overcome, from my mental and physically health to where I am now. It’s so easy to give up, but it’s so much more worth is when you finally make it….
